The spark:
Born to modern Jamaican parents and grew up as a typical Jamaican girl I started to discover natural remedies even though I didn’t know what to do myself. Roots, herbs, seasonings were not just for food and cooking; they were staples of our well-being and went into our day-to-day routine for cooking.
The kitchen cupboard wasn’t just a place for spices; it was a treasure chest of natural treats for daily use for almost everybody’s condition. Whenever my sisters and I had colds or runny noses, out came the lemon, ginger, and honey along with all the other herbal delights my mum or grandma expertly prepared. However, the remedies were soothing even for those who didn’t know if they needed it; they were comforting for all of us. Our colds disappeared in a few days, and we were going out to play like nothing actually happened. I can now also see how much love and knowledge was put into those remedies.
My sisters and I would try and reproduce them ourselves, but they never quite matched the magic of mum or grandma’s touch. Now I know why— there were so many herbs we didn’t think to add! (No wonder our attempts didn’t work as well, LOL.) But they were the things that made me believe in these natural remedies. It wasn’t purely a sense of feeling better— it was a reference point; these were all related to something pure; something rooted firmly in tradition, something that worked without add-on.
My Herbal and fitness journey.
I was 30, a busy and fulfilling life began. As a beauty therapist and makeup artist, I worked from home, so that I was able to take care of my child. Things were going well for me, bridal parties, makeup events, fashion shows, and music videos in our front line. I couldn’t be happier to see my child have everything I needed and so I was proud to be part of my child’s activities, every day in school.
Life does not come easy; Life throws curveballs at the one time you least expect it.
One day, to reach my sales target and get the regional manager off my back, I acted the right way—literally. While demonstrating skincare products, my prospective client was ready and wanted to buy everything that I had shown. Some things weren’t on the shelf, so I climbed a ladder to get them out of a long 10-foot shelving unit and up on top of a stockroom shelf from a big 10-foot-tall stack of goods. And what’s on that shelving unit changed my life forever. The ladder tipped and I fell. It felt slow motion to me… All I cared about was my head as the distance from my head to the corner of the opposite shelf was short. “If my arms break,” I said to myself. The impact was terrible: my lower back, hips and legs took most of the fall.
My elbows hit first to soften the blow to my upper back and head, but the pain was intolerable. For a few seconds I was knocked out and knew something was wrong. I could not walk for nearly six weeks. Painkillers and frustration filled those weeks. I knew that as a single parent I couldn’t afford to be in that moment and I made at to make a decision: I quit taking the pills and faced the pain head-on. With that one act of courage, that was a whole new thing. The start of my journey into herbal medicine and exercising became all about fitness—an exercise plan to get where I am today.
Life’s second curveball:
The ability to turn setbacks into inspiration.
Just when I had taken back my strength and found confidence again, life decided to test me again.
In 2015 I was caught in rush hour traffic and got hit by a car attempting to move forward. The force of her hit me upside down and once again I landed on the hip in which I had been injured years before. And for it all, I had 15 stitches on my lip—inside and out—that made eating practically impossible.
If there’s one thing life taught me, it’s to adapt. In those circumstances I was able to drink soup with a straw and even ate Maltesers, which melted right in the little corner of my mouth. One tiny silver lining was that I had lost 5 pounds, but the pain was none the less painful. But I wouldn’t tolerate strong painkillers. I simply wasn’t ready to be back in the grey, disconnected world. I was conscious that I was using very basic natural remedies to remedy myself during the recovery process. Turmeric and black pepper proved to be my go-to solution. There was inflammation in my head for years because I had used turmeric previously but this time I took things to a whole different level, and I tried measuring things and making notes. What I learned was life-changing and made me believe in the power of having my own turmeric mixture as a better replacement to the capsules I had already tried. Within two weeks I didn’t need it for pain relief—different from my earlier experience with painkillers.
As someone with a strong family history of weak hips and hip surgeries, I truly didn’t want to follow that path. My doctor said my injury might flare up as I aged, and I knew I had to act. So, I did everything in my power to strengthen my body and prevent it from happening again. The seed that had been planted the day I first got injured in 2004 began to grow, and my strong love for natural remedies deepened. It has been a time where I have learned firsthand how powerful remedies can be—for both short-term symptoms as well as long-term health.
Thriving through change:
My secret game changer.
I was in my early thirties when women would complain about their sex lives or discuss the challenges menopause can bring—brain fog, hot flushes, low libido, and painful dryness requiring lubricants. As I entered my forties, these conversations became more significant, especially when I learned about my family's history.
My mother and her sisters started menopause in their early forties; menopause can linger for a long time, and I was now approaching 50. It was clear to me: I had some time to prepare myself and my body for it to happen. My period ended at age 43, just like so many women in my family, and I was conflicted. I had long wished for relief from the pain and hassle of a monthly period. And I also didn’t know if I was ready for the closing of this chapter. Along with this change in emotions,
I still had severe period symptoms and PMT without regularity. That’s when a friend brought me Red Maca and Ashwagandha, herbs I hadn’t investigated in depth until then. He had no details of what it is or does; he simply said, “Women should take it.” I was so confident in my friend that I purchased some. After four weeks I started having a regular period. Within three months my cycle was at peak, but one thing was true: the pain and PMT that had plagued me for months were gone. For seven years now, I take Red Maca, Black Maca, and Ashwagandha and I’ll shout their praises from the rooftops.
These herbs didn’t only assist in easing my symptoms; they brought personal comfort back to me and improved my body and mental well-being. But when I could not access them, something changed: PMT and menstrual pain returned, and I ended up needing turmeric and black pepper to ease pain.
How many women like me have silently suffered through years of period pains, PMT, or menopausal symptoms without the help of these natural solutions? If I had known about such herbs earlier, I would have wanted to share their powers with those who could benefit from them.
I have a vision right now, one big goal: I want to help women not only survive these life changes but thrive through them. In my world, women experience menopause, post-menopause, and hormonal stressors, and we must empower ourselves to be the most vigorous we can be, with the energy, vitality, and natural solutions we need in our day-to-day lives. This wasn’t simply a new chapter I was starting; I had accepted that for myself more than for others who seek the solution—a solution with the greatest power that works.
Purity:
A personal journey.
My homemade turmeric herbal mixture propelled me further in life; it has surprisingly so much better than the capsules that was available to me. The problem was simple: mine was pure stuff and theirs was full of pointless bulk content and fillers. This made me really start to think about others and how the solution worked more than what I could, not just myself. First, I purchased raw herbs and filled vegan capsules for my own use in the home. But I had to get them. And soon my family and friends were asking for them, and I was impressed about the results and had to be saying yes. But as time went on I realized something was bothering: wholesalers were giving me powders of which most of all starting to wear away not having much potency and not getting great results, how I felt about that. At first, I assumed that it’s because of seasonal changes, but the mix-up made me see that all these products could be possibly diluted.
At that point this was the start of my road change. But I was still motivated to create remedies which had always been effective, so I went through a 6-month hunt for best-quality herbs. We tested suppliers, analysed their way of business and checked them regularly. Quality was always considered, always an exception.
What sets my supplements apart
Is the fact that each and every single product I create was personally tried and tested by me and particular family members before the product is sold to the public. If it doesn’t work for me, it doesn’t get sold out— period. It ensures you’ve got a good combination of pure, potent herbs for the full benefits in your capsule and for what nature had intended for this stuff. I have a philosophy that I have always followed: “If nature doesn’t make it, I don’t take it.” It guides all my inputs— sourcing, as well as ensuring fillers, additives and synthetic had to be cut from my supplements not adding to them.
Everything I give you is natural and that’s what your body is going to want, nothing more nothing less. Through this commitment, I’m eager to offer products that do not only align with my values though they want to and should but to facilitate people on their own journey to live healthier and take care of their wellbeing.
